Young Aelfric
Originated from Ishgard like most of Elezen race, he isn't one from a noble family. Aelfric lives around a makeshift shelter of Brume with his big brother and sister, along with the other commoners who are less fortunate. As a child, the siblings really don't have any wish other than Ishgardians to be able to live equally, nobles and commoners alike. While both of his siblings went out to do some revolutionary movement and declared themselves as one of the revolutionist, Aelfric decided that he want no part of it. It wasn't his calling. Thus, it was the time for both the sibling and young Aelfric to part ways. He missed them dearly for he has none and had to live alone from that point.
Received no proper education, young Aelfric had quite a hard time trying to survive alone. He was indentured to a fishmonger at the age of seven and had to make do on whatever whims the merchant was on. It was a long and arduous life he still had, until one faithful day, on his age of twelve, the head of House de Rougecarpe took him as his ward and trained Aelfric to do some basic housekeeping. While Aelfric isn't particularly have a genius mind, he have a knack to learn just about anything, especially about botany, mineralogy or things that happen around nature. His diligence actually caught an attention of one the eldest brother of the family. Knowing that Aelfric had a past with a fishmonger, Ansaulme de Rougecarpe decided to take him under his wings. With his affinity as a fisher, he learn quite a lot of fishes of the world from Aelfric while also taught him how to fish properly. His diligence and eloquence soon made Aelfric become Ansaulme's manservant. Keeping Ansaulme's decadent life fuller and well-organized. That is until the day Ansaulme decided that he wishes to broaden his horizons and sojourn to a fishing journey as far as to the corner of the world.
Their Downfall
Aelfric's service then passed from keeping Ansaulme prim and proper to become the housekeeper of house de Rougecarpe. He then serve himself fully, and commitedly to the family, as a butler. He did most of the bookkeeping and also serves the daily meals. His dedication to serve the House Rougecarpe had made Aelfric's name quite heard on some parts of Ishgard. The denizens often refers him as "Aelfric the immaculate royal butler" despite his protestation to just call him by his simple name. Their life sure flourished ever since Aelfric served himself to the House, and then another, forty more years, until one eventful day, a mysterious letter was sent bearing an unknown sigil, the content of that letter is about the true identity of Aelfric. For a long time, Aelfric Folles never seem to reveal about his last name for he always think himself as a nobody. But the name 'Folles' is actually a known last name that resembles the leader of The Corpse Brigade, Milleuda Folles. The Corpse Brigade is a notorious group of brigands who has been terrorizing the Ul'dahn nobles. They reside around the desert areas of Thanalan and often attacking a caravan passerby. upon learning this, the head of house Rougecarpe unable to sit still. This began the day of the Rougecarpe's downfall.
Another unnamed letter is sent to the mailbox, unsigned and still bearing the unknown seal, but this time, it was for Aelfric. It was an instruction for him to resign on his earliest convenience before the tragedy that will befall to the head of the house, precisely midnight, on the same date. Having committed himself fully to serve the family and unwilling to throw away his solemn duty, Aelfric keeps his vigil and try to consult the letter to the head of the house. Unfortunately, his timely interference was intercepted by Ansaulme's brother. The letter taken away from his possession and barred from entering the family hall, thus he had to remain in the servant's room with several guards being in the position to make sure that Aelfric won't interfere. He was in dismay and feeling helpless. But giving up isn't one of his ideals, so in the break of the night, with a dagger for his only means of survival, Aelfric steal his way to the master's quarter to inform the head of the house that he is in danger, just to get himself in the last second sight of his employer being murdered by an unknown assailant. As the assailant quickly vanish into thin air, one of the guard come in to find out. With dagger in his possession, bloodied or not, he has nothing to prove.
Aelfric Folles
The Encounter
His only answer on that time is flight or fight. Having close to no martial prowess, his only means to survive is to remove himself from the very ground of the House he served for so long. He ran and ran, as fast as he could to the snowy land of Coerthas. Little did he know that three of the assailant actually pursued him with their chocobos. Their only motivation is to remove him from the scene as he was the only eyewitness at that time. He was later cornered upon the Coerthan hill, Aelfric simply don't know what to do, and he begged them to spare him. With a sneer, they slowly unsheathe their arms, going to end the poor Aelfric.
As befitting a tragedy that ends in blood, a sudden flash and out of the blue, a Dark Knight appears behind them. An unknown Hrothgar in dark plate armour, with eyes and fur as white as the snow itself, murdered all of them mercilessly in a swift, and a sneer. Aelfric who has on his knees, just froze and gaze upon the murderer's eyes. He knew his time is at an end and it might be his turn. He lower his head as if a criminal ready to have his sentence passed, just for the Hrothgar to stetch out his hand.
"Come."
"But why...? Where...?"
"You hate injustices, right? Don't you want to right the wrongs
of what they did to your dearest Rougecarpe?"
Aelfric closes his eyes. Hands to heart, and shaking. His desire to take a revenge on whoever did all of this must not go unpunished. He is powerless, but being powerless will not suffice to right the wrong, with an ally in tow, he think it would be possible to have his revenge served. He took that Hrothgar's hand as he gets up.
"Aye."
"Aelfric. Aelfric Folles. I pledge my life to you."
"I may not be that helpful in combat, but you won't regret
having me as your butler. You can count on that, m'lord."
